FINAL ESSAY
BY BOO JUNGSOO 2009310125
I
will now introduce some articles that I read from my classmates’ blog. The first
article is about coding lessons in Greece school. The next one is about the
dark side of Muay Thai, and the last one is about the arrest of the tourist in
Brazil. The first article is related with my major, computer science, so I got
interest in it. The next one is about Muay Thai and I chose this because I also
learn Taekwondo when I was young. Finally I chose the last article because I
have great interest in the world cup in Brazil.
I read the first article from Heo
Jae Hyeok’s blog “Greece should be protecting coding lessons in schools, not
cutting them” and I chose this article because coding is closely related to my
major which is computer science. According to the article, Greek government is
trying to eliminate the annual coding exam. The citizens including teachers and
professors are criticizing the education policy change saying that coding is
very important to the economy. Heo Jae hyeok said that code class is needed for
Greek people and there is no reason to give it up because it’s important and
even Greece people are good at it. I also agree with his opinion. Although
Korea is the number one country in Internet use, IT industry is not strong as
it. I think this is because there is no coding lesson in schools. Because
people have less access to coding in their child age, even they decide to study
coding it takes a while. This is very inefficient. Also because coding is a
very logic subject, not only you will learn coding but you will become more
logical in your thinking. So I think Korean government should add coding
subject in school.
I read the second article from Seo Dawon’s
blog “The Darker side of Thailand’s Grueling National Sport, Muay Thai” and I
chose this article because the picture of the boy in the article was very
impressing because he looked very different from me when I was in his age.
According to the article, Muay Thai has negative effects on young boys, because
they start in very young age and they have to endure excessive and brutal
training. Also their training environment is very dangerous and insanitary. So
the Author claims that young boys doing Muay Thai should be regulated by the
government. Seo Dawon said that she felt sad because this article shows the
dark side of the sport entertainment. Only few of the young boys can become
successful, and the others have to live with health and mental problem for
their rest of their lives. So she said the Thai government should make regulations
that secure the proper environment of the young boys. I also agree with her. Few
weeks ago, I watched a TV show about Muay Thai and I felt sad. It said many of
the boys who train suffer from side-effect of pain-killers or even die because
of internal injuries. I think the government should ban young boys for training
Muay Thai until a certain age.
I read the last article from
Fikri’s blog “Tourist in Rio Arrested for Drug possession and Bribery” and I
chose this article because I have great interest about Brazil because of the
world cup. According to the article, a French tourist was arrested for drug possession
and bribery in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He tried to bribe the police after he
was caught smoking marijuana. However, he was released the next day as he posed
no risk for society. Fikri said despite the bad rumors about corruptions in
Brazil, there is still justice in Brazil. However, he said the arrest is good
but releasing the tourist the next day seems ridiculous. He was worried that if
Brazilian court keeps releasing criminals for nonsense excuse, people will
think that it’s okay to commit crime in Brazil. I also agree with him. I think that
the Brazil court saying that a person who possesses drugs and even tried to
give bribe is not a risk to society is non-sense. I’m even suspicious that the
Brazil court was bribed by the tourist. Some countries in the world have bad
rumor about corruptions and I think Korea still belongs to those countries. To
get rid of that bad image, Korean court should give the right punishment to the
criminals regardless of the criminals’ social status.
Until now I wrote my
thoughts about my classmates’ article. Issues that happened in the articles
have high possibility to happen in Korea also. To make a wise solution, Korean
government should learn a lesson from them. Also it was interesting that I had
same opinion about the articles with Fikri, Da-won and Jae-hyeok. It was a good opportunity to get to know
other people of my age think about the outer world.
